Death is coming

The closer death creeps up upon me the less I am able to understand the reasons for life or living.

Yes I have experienced a close family member dying and unlike television it takes decades to handle such a thing. To think I am going to put my family through such a thing when I finally leave is more horrific to me than the thought of death itself.

My life was and is still a learning experience but when all said and done what am I to do with all this accumulated learning over my lifetime if I just die. There is no logic or reason to this.

Long ago I became aware that the God story that is sold to the majority is just a nice story to give mankind with a message of a basic layout of how nice life could be if everyone followed these ideas. Not many in life do and if one thinks about it the good and evil structures actually depend on each other. The good that can be experienced in life is only understood as good when there is it's opposite to compare it to. This is not rocket science only common sense in reality. I am not saying we need to experience bad but understanding in it is needed to appreciate the great things many of us can have in our lives. From birth to death there are many ways mankind helps his fellow man. How many ways can you help?

How Much Time To Get Your Monument

By Duane Kuss

A commonplace question folk will ask is how much time it takes to have a memorial finished from start to finish. There are three necessary elements that make a contribution to the quantity of time the process can take. These include: (1) designing the commemorative (2) acquiring the raw granite stone of the selected color, size and form (3) manufacturing the lettering, carving and engraving of the stone and installation. It is possible to finish the process inside 3 weeks (lightning express service) but more usually will be handled in 2-4 months. On unusual occasions, when a special colour, size or shape of granite is being shipped from over seas, a monument can take up to a year or more to finish.

Designing Your Memorial

Step one of the process involves the design and layout of your monument. This involves choosing the lettering, graphics, text, photos and design that you want. This also may include selecting the colour, size and form of the granite your loved one's story will be captured on. Once these selections are made they are sent to a memorial design expert who takes your ideas and drafts a layout of what your headstone will look like. This layout is then sent back to you for changes or approval. A memorial layout is usually made and returned for review inside one week. The time required to make the first design choices and the final changes needed to confirm your final commemorative layout can vary widely from days to months dependent on your unique situation. Will one individual be making the decisions or will a bunch of family members be involved? Creative design choices take time and the more folks concerned will always affect how speedily the process can move forward. The quantity of time required to design your monument, headstone or gravestone can range all the way from a couple of weeks, to many months, all depending on how quickly the decision making process advances.

Acquiring The Granite Stone For Your Gravestone

Ideally the color, shape and size of the monument you select will match a piece of granite that's already in inventory. If that is not the case, the granite will have to be acquired based mostly on the location your granite stone is quarried. Many times special sizing and shaping is done at or nearby the quarry before the stone can be shipped. Depending on the colour and shape of your stone, the product you choose could need to be shipped from overseas and this can extend the amount of time required to 6-8 months and in infrequent occasions even a year or better. Be sure to ask your authorized commemorative counselor in regards to what your options are and how your decisions will impact on your memorial's projected completion date.

Manufacturing And Installing Your Monument

Once your raw granite stone is procured it will then require the final engraving and carving to perfectly match the design layout you authorized in the beginning of this 3-step process. Your monument can generally complete its manufacturing process in 2-3 weeks time. Installation of your monument at the graveyard is another time variable based on location, time of year and graveyard rules. In northern climates, most graveyards like gravestones to be installed during non-frozen conditions. In ideal situations your monument should be installed within a week of its production completion. Weather conditions can further delay installation from a couple of weeks to numerous months.
