Important Question.
Most of the religious Christian world sees the infilling of the Holy Ghost as an added blessing that is optional to the Christian. OR - they teach that it is automatic once you repent and receive Christ.
But, how important is the Holy Ghost? What does the Bible say?
Act 1:8 - "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."
"But Wayne, I am a believer in Jesus and I am saved, so why would I need to be baptized in the Holy Spirit?"
Again, lets go back to the Bible.
"He said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" So they said to him, "We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit."
He did not give the same excuses as we hear today...
- "I am saved. I already have the spirit within me." - "I am (list your denomination here), we don't believe in that." - "Speaking In tongues is just babble!" - "That stuff went away with the Apostles..."
Really? Have you spoken these sad statements?
Lets examine - not with opinion, but with the Bible.
- "I am saved. I already have the spirit within me." True. Yet, also there is a separate experience, the baptism of the Holy Spirit Acts 19:2 -" He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost." You may have been saved for 50 years, but have you been baptized with the Holy Spirit? It was a separate experience for the disciples (upper room) - so why not you?
- "I am (list your denomination here), we don't believe in that." Your beliefs do not always to truth. Truth is just that - truth, not opinion. As a child I believed in SANTA CLAUSE - guess what, he is not real. Many people do not believe in GOD - yet, he is very real. Sounds too simple huh? It really is - just because you or your church does not believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit does not change TRUTH. Always hold truth, and the Bible over your church - period.
- "Speaking In tongues is just babble!" Dangerous ground. I would be scared to blaspheme with this statement. From the Bible, "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;" - Mark 16:17
From my own experience, I have spoken in tongues many times, and find it amazing to hear other people from other parts of the world, speak very similar audible (yet unknown) words in the spirit. It is not babble - not a made-up language, but is a Holy language.
- "That stuff went away with the Apostles..." Really? Show me. The Bible did not say that we would speak with new tongues, UNTIL the last apostle or disciple dies off. The one verse that is often misquoted is in Corinthians 13:8- "Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away."
At some point it shall - the prophecies, the tongues, even KNOWLEDGE (another teaching altogether on this one) - but when? When perfect has come. We are not "perfect" yet- we have strife, confusion, separation... we are being transformed and made whole. Until then, never blaspheme the spirit with your misunderstanding or religious cliches.
SO NOW WHAT?
Well, there are two types of people that will read this article. 1) Will accept the truth, pray for a revelation, and let Holy Spirit come and baptize them, enduing them with POWER for the Kingdom mission we have. No longer accepting tradition, misguided teachings, or fear rob them from the blessings of the baptism. or 2) They will read this, delete it, make excuses, and then go on without the very baptism JESUS himself promised.
Which are you?
Saved? Amen. Received The Holy Spirit? Baptism of the Holy Spirit is life-changing!
