Death is coming

The closer death creeps up upon me the less I am able to understand the reasons for life or living.

Yes I have experienced a close family member dying and unlike television it takes decades to handle such a thing. To think I am going to put my family through such a thing when I finally leave is more horrific to me than the thought of death itself.

My life was and is still a learning experience but when all said and done what am I to do with all this accumulated learning over my lifetime if I just die. There is no logic or reason to this.

Long ago I became aware that the God story that is sold to the majority is just a nice story to give mankind with a message of a basic layout of how nice life could be if everyone followed these ideas. Not many in life do and if one thinks about it the good and evil structures actually depend on each other. The good that can be experienced in life is only understood as good when there is it's opposite to compare it to. This is not rocket science only common sense in reality. I am not saying we need to experience bad but understanding in it is needed to appreciate the great things many of us can have in our lives. From birth to death there are many ways mankind helps his fellow man. How many ways can you help?

Selecting The Right Monument Grave

By Tom Tree

Through the ages, many societies have used stones to show the place where those who have passed on were interred. This practice coined some commonly used modern terms like gravestone, headstone and tombstone. Most modern civilizations still use this method of Burial Marker, though the process of selection has become much more elaborate.

Monuments such as these serve not only as place holders, but as a small testament to the individual that they memorialize. They feature a person's name and the dates of their birth and death, which in a way, immortalizes them for generations to come. Many folks personalize their testaments further by having an epitaph also inscribed upon the stone or into the metal.

The styles in which these monuments are found are virtually endless with so many materials and features from which to choose. They may be thin and flat against the lawn or they may tower high and present an impressive silhouette. Some contain only the very basic information with no frills while others are extremely elaborate and filled with personalization.

The look of one's gravestone might be influenced by multiple contributing factors. The strongest consideration is the personal style and tastes of the individual for whom it is meant because one's eternal monument should be a reflection of that person's likes. The second biggest restraint is usually the budget that has been set aside for this purchase.

Before making a final selection, one should decide the cemetery in which the stone is to be place. For purposes of easy maintenance or uniformity, some locations may have regulations on the types and sizes of gravestones and plaques that will be allowed on the property. It is important to check for such restrictions as it is quite common for such facilities to remove or reject those that do not comply to set standards.

Several materials, including wood, limestone, sandstone, slate, marble and brass are used to make these products. Though all of these have favorable qualities, bronze and granite are by far the most commonly used substances for constructing gravestones. This is primarily because they are both extremely durable, even in the worst climate conditions, easy to maintain, attractive and affordable.

Many people will put a lot of planning into the selection of what is to become their eternal burial marker. This is the item that is going to serve as a testament of an individual's life for generations to follow. One needs to take into consideration not only the personal tastes of the one it will represent, but budget and facility regulations as well, before making a final purchase.

Different Styles For Gravestone Design

By Tom Tree

When making plans for one's burial, it is a common practice to have a commemorative plaque or some type of monument to place atop their interment site. Inscribed with the individual's name along with the dates on which they were born and died, and occasionally an epitaph, it is a way for one to leave their mark upon the world. There are literally thousands of design options for Graves Headstones.

Since the earliest days of man, burial sites have been marked by stones. The practice began with piling plain rocks together but as civilizations advanced, people started to decorate the markers by drawing or carving meaningful symbols, words, numbers or pictures on them. As time passed, these gravestones became a way to tell visitors to the site about the person who is buried there.

Baring the name, birth and death dates and possibly the special sentiments of the deceased, monuments of this type are generally placed at the plot's head. Plaques, low profile slabs, statues and variations of upright stone tablets are just the basic options available. These may be geometrically shaped, cut into symbolic designs like crosses and stars or even be formed as pedestals which can hold urns or other items.

In cemeteries worldwide, the most popular style is an upright granite tablet that is either free standing or perched atop a horizontal base. These are shaped as plain rectangles, have tops that are scrolled or domed, or they are cut into the shape of a religious or organizational symbol. It is common for couples or families interred in the same plot to share a single marker containing each of their information.

Some markers, such as the flush slabs and plaques, take on a more unobtrusive profile and make for easier maintenance. Bevels are a variation on this style, being thicker and elevating the rear edge a few inches higher than the front. Slanted forms take this a step further by making the readable surface lean at 45 degrees.

Gothic tablets are like the ones most commonly found in older cemeteries. They tend to be very ornate, featuring the curving scrolled lines and intricate angles and arches that were prominent in the architecture of period churches. Their classic beauty is as interesting and intriguing in modern times as it was in the days they were first introduced.

Creating impressive silhouettes and resembling sleek towers, obelisks are another popular design. Inspired by structures from ancient Egyptian times, these formations are often topped with pyramids, stars, angels or eagles. There are so many grave headstones options available, making it possible to create a beautiful monument to fit most any budget.

This is one reason the right Grave Memorial is important because it not only honors the deceased but also provides a physical token for the living.

It should reflect the style and personality of the individual whose life it represents as it is intended to be a monument to their life. The range of design options and material choices are simply staggering, which makes it easier to find something that is a fitting tribute.

Many types of materials can be used to create these monuments. This includes wood, concrete, limestone and marble as well as stainless steel and brass. While each of those substances have desirable qualities, granite and bronze stand above them all as the most commonly used mainly because these two are attractive and versatile, yet also durable enough to stand up to some of the worst climate conditions.

Many cemeteries place restrictions on the types of markers that are allowed, so this is a factor that one will need to consider when making their selection. Sometimes these regulations are in place as a way to keep the overall look neat and consistent, or it could be a matter of easy maintenance. Whatever the reasons, there are still many ways in which a gravestone may be personalized to the individual's style.

Granite is a material that provides the designer with many options. It allows one to step away from the regular grey stone and choose more vibrant hues like green, blue, red, pink, black and white if so desired. They may decide to keep the traditional matte surface texture or opt for a highly polished finish that shines like a mirror and holds an etching beautifully.

Details may be added to make the design more personal. This may mean having a favorite passage, verse or symbol etched into the surface. Many people find that the Victorian practice of incorporating a weather proofed photo frame into the monument is a truly inspired way to make the tribute special since it immortalizes the individuals likeness for generations to come.

Decals showing organizational memberships or military service may also be added. Other ways to create a unique grave memorial is to incorporate things like statues, planters, vases and benches into the design. Solar lights provide constant illumination for an extra special touch.
