At some point in our lives most of us would have pondered the question: "What is my life purpose?". If you look to the internet and check the web sites run by savvy business entrepreneurs as well as some wannabe's, you will notice a message that goes something like this: "And you too my friend can have your cake and get to eat it as well. In other words, you can be, do and have to your heart's content"
As a budding entrepreneur myself I totally agree with this statement. My life purpose calls upon me to play full out and having it all. At the same time I ask myself, "are these three calls to action (being, doing and having) of equal merit or should we prioritize here?
What if world travel became my life passion and I was driven to just have lots and lots of cool experiences and this is what I lived for?
Or what if, I amassed lots of wealth beyond my expectations that enables me to acquire lots of the best things that money can buy and this is what is most important to me?
What if, my monetary wealth and status allows me to exert power and influence attracting the attention of significant others and I came to enjoy the power plays?
Or instead, what if becoming a person of great character became central in my life and in doing so, it open doors to meeting really quality people that became life long friends and this became really important in my life?
The more I think about my life purpose the more I realize that the things that human beings value the most are the things that are internal or intangible that money or power per se cannot acquire. Is there anything greater than love, trust, respect, compassion, generosity or good health?
Considering your life purpose, if you spend decades of your life accumulating money and things, it could all be lost in a moments notice. The economy could crash, technology could overtake you or your physical body, at any moment could be rendered unfit to pursue what you love to do.
To get to the crux, the quality of the inner person that has been carefully molded and shaped by you, remains as your eternal treasure. Never take for granted, that people will truly come to love you for the quality of person that you are, not for what you have got or what you can do.
