Pendulum clocks are a type of clock that works by suspending a mechanical body so that it swings back and forth to tell the time. Pendulum clocks as we know today were perfected in 1656 and they represented man's first invention at accurately telling the time. The clock has a face, a weight, a keyhole and the pendulum. The swing of the pendulum controls hidden gears inside the clock to move the hands on the face of the clock that resultantly tell the time in hours and minutes.

Pendulum clocks by modern standards look very simple compared to the sophisticated quartz models that we have today. But this presumed simplicity did not come easy. Pendulum clocks have a long history.

They began as an experiment by Peter Henlein, a German, when he tried to find a way to accurately tell the time. He wanted to develop something that would be used by everyone and serve as a common agreement on time. Henlein's invention in 1510 closely resembled today's pendulum wall clocks but was powered by a spring and did not accurately tell the time as he meant it to be. It had an hour hand only and thus posed difficulty when people had to decide on half hours.

In 1577, Christian Huygens, a Dutch, improved upon the work of Henlein and invented the pendulum clock. Four years later, he added a minute hand to give the time piece accurate time telling capabilities. It is no surprise that Huygens achieved such a feat. As a mathematician, he was very concerned about accuracy and precision so he was probably constantly worried about time being told on an hourly basis only.

After these marked improvements on pendulum clocks by Huygens, many other anonymous inventors and technologists worked on the device. One of these innovations was the ability of the device to swing a little less. Earlier versions swung as much as 50 degrees to turn the gears inside the clock. Improvements led to pendulums swinging a lower angle of 10 to 15 degrees.

Some believe that since God is so holy and wise, He would never anoint a person who has problem in his personal life or character or doctrine. The moment they see a flaw in the minister's character or doctrine, they immediately conclude that the power did not come from God because God would never use a person like that. This is obviously not biblical because we see a lot of examples in the Bible when God uses weak men who are far from perfect. In the New Testament, we see the most anointed church of that time, the Corinthians, was also the most carnal church of that time according to Apostle Paul.

Spiritual gifts are given by the Holy Spirit freely according to His own will. No one can earn spiritual gifts with work or godliness. The gifts or any other demonstration of power on a person are not given as a badge or a sign that God approves the man's spiritual maturity. No one can earn the gifts of the Holy Spirit by trying to consecrate himself. Everything is given by grace as free gift, just like salvation.

No one could speak perfect word of God because we are all sinners and we could only prophecy in part. Therefore, we must test every prophecy. A well established prophet could tell something not from God, while a broken man with obvious problem could also possibly speak a prophecy from God. But still, we must be aware of false prophets who take people astray.

The Lord can also choose to anoint you with spiritual gift. If that happens, praise Jesus' good name and stay humble, because He alone is worthy of all praise. We are sinners and none of us is perfect. But the Lord can still use us mightily if we obey.

God gives spiritual gifts to a person for the common benefit of the church rather than for individual pleasure. When the Holy Spirit is so kind and merciful that He anoints us with spiritual gift, let us also be the gifts and blessing given to others.

The bible teaches us to contend to walk in the fullness of the prophetic anointing. We need the anointing of the Holy Spirit to walking in Holiness. We also need His anointing to walking prophetic ministries like healing the sick, casting out demons and prophesying in order to demonstrate the power of the gospel we preach. True apostolic faith is what we need and we need to have biblical ideas, biblical lifestyles and biblical experience. Like fire requiring oxygen, fuel and temperature to burn, we cannot afford to give up any one of the three elements! Let's look at how we could contend for the fullness of the prophetic anointing in a biblical way.

First, we must have a clear vision for the fullness of the Holy Spirit. There is more. The Lord desires to give us His fullness. We must be in agreement with Lord in order to receive what He gives us. Just like salvation, the work has been fully completed by Jesus, but we have to respond with faith in agreement with the Lord in order to receive it. The same applies to the prophetic anointing of the Holy Spirit. It is a free gift but we need to receive it with a clear vision for the fullness. Do not be satisfied with a little bit of personal experiences. You know deep down in your heart that there is more. Continue to press in believing that you can receive the fullness as the Lord promised.

Secondly, we must be grateful for everything God has given to us. While we crave for the fullness, we are also thankful for anything that the Lord gives us and shows us no matter how small it is in our eyes. We do not despise the day of small beginnings. We continue to be grateful and faithful in whatever the Lord commissions us to do.

Thirdly, in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests made known unto God (Phil 4:6). Prayer and fasting is the way for the power of God to break forth. He gave us this great privilege to pray and cooperate with Him in releasing His blessings. Prayer and fasting do not earn us more blessings and they position and tenderize ourselves to receive and be in agreement with God. And while we are in deeper agreement with the Lord, our prayers release greater power.

Fourth, we must live the Kingdom of Heaven lifestyle. We do this by living according to what the Lord taught us in the Sermon on the Mount (Matt. 5-7). An old wineskin cannot carry new wine. Our inner man is reborn through the Holy Spirit. We must be holy as our Father is holy. We believe we can because we know that we are no longer a slave of sin but a slave of righteousness. We seek to live totally free of compromise. But when we fail, we do not get discouraged but we repent and try again wholeheartedly.

Finally, be prepared to bear the reproach and stigma of the anointing. Often what comes with the great anointing is great trouble. The Lord would protect His servants from pride with suffering. This is a protection by fire. Like Paul who received tremendous anointing of the Holy Spirit, but the suffering he went through is also unthinkable. However, nothing satisfies you more than a deep fellowship with the Lord. Do not be intimidated by the hardship ahead of you. Press in for the fullness of the Holy Spirit. You will not regret.
