One of the most controversial aspects of the current religious world involves that of personal prophecy. It takes effect in diverse ways depending on the individual; some tell of a kind of 'bubbling up' of the words from within, whilst for others it remains almost exclusively visionary.

Vital to the understanding of the process is being aware that it is mean't to personally guide each different person rather than to be used within teaching. In actual fact almost no teaching is involved surrounding the practice of receiving prophetic words.

The process of receiving this gift is not necessarily limited to the initial encounter with a prophet. Words can also be channelled through dreams or visions. Nonetheless some work will be involved in making oneself ready for such a gift such as, for example, regular prayer and scripture studies.

In summary, personal prophecy is regarded as being a special gift from the Lord that is intended for the use of people in both self-definition and fulfilment. The fact is, whether one agrees that it is a vital part of one's growth or not, the practice has been around for just as long as we have.

Can the jinns strike the humans?

Strike of jinn is a widespread concept in the society. Almost everyone can tell a story about this, and this is valid for almost all the societies.

Shibli says that Sunni Islam scholars including Abu al-Hasan al-Ash'ari believe that jinns can harm a human by entering his body, and says that they explain this in their articles showing the verse in the surah (chapter) of Baqara (The Cow) which informs us about the situation of the people who take interest, as a proof for this: "Those who devour usury will not stand except as stand one whom the Satan by his touch Hath driven to madness". (1) When Ahmad Ibn Hanbal's son Abdullah asked him "Some people say that jinns can't enter the human body. What do you think about this?" he replied "They lie". (2)

Gulen (an Islamic scholar of our century) says about "on what conditions jinns can harm humans":

"Jinns can affect humans and attract them in different ways mostly when they are in a state of junub (ritually impure due to sexual intercourse or semen discharge), haid (menstruation) or nifas (the bleeding after childbirth). Also every sin is like a door for them. Especially sensitive people, spiritually ill ones, free and easy ones living far from prayer and the atmosphere of the praying people are affected by the jinns easily. Of course violation of the jinns' life borders or rights and occupying their homes or places without the word of Basmala (Bismi-llahi ar-rahmani ar-rahimi / In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful) are other important reasons for being harmed by them too. Therefore our prophet Hz. Muhammad (pbuh) teaches us to pray when we are entering to dirty places and prohibits us to perform salah in places like garbage dumps, baths, toilets, pastures and graveyards. He teaches us to pray like "Allahumma inni auzu bika min'al-hobsi wa'l-habais / My Allah, I take refugee in you from all the filths and the evils" when we are entering toilets (note: in old times generally toilets were not integrated into the homes and were standalone units in a garden). He wants us to be in clean places which can be a fortress to be protected from this kind of evils, to be with clean people, to construct an atmosphere of prayers and to protect ourselves with the worships.

So, the one who wants to protect himself from all the evils of the jinns must stay away far from the sins firstly thus closing the holes which let them in." (3)

Black Magic and Satanic Possession

My brother after returning from a trip starting acting very strange. He would say weird things and now doesn't talk to anyone at all. He has been sitting outside for 2 months now. He has even spit on our mother. At first we thought there was something psychologically wrong with him. However when we took him to a mental doctor he talks as if he is fine. We think he is either possessed by a Jinn or some magic was done to him. How can you tell if someone is possessed or if magic was done to them? How do you remove it? My mother is getting very sick over this.

Praise be to Allaah

People who have had experience with such situations have related that the following are among the signs of a person who is possessed by jinn (or Satan):

Strong repulsion when hearing Qur'aan or Aathaan (call for prayers).

Episodes of losing consciousness and/or epileptic attacks, especially when Qur'aan is recited for the possessed person.

Frequent nightmares during sleep.

Tendency to avoid people accompanied by out-of-the-norm behavior.

The jinn who possesses him might speak when Qur'aan is recited for the possessed person.

Madness, as stated in the Qur'aan (interpretation of the meaning): "Those who devour usury will not stand except as stands one whom Satan by his touch hath driven to [epileptic] madness..."2:275

As for a person struck by magic he might experience the following:

Dislike of one's spouse, as indicated in the Qur'aan by the following verse (interpretation of the meaning): "And from these (angels) people learn that by which they cause separation between a man and his wife..." (Al-Baqarah, 2:102).

Different attitude in the house from that which is outside the house. For example, a person will feel that he is missing his family when is outside the house but when he goes home, love changes quickly to extreme hatred.

Inability to have sexual intercourse with one's spouse.

Frequent miscarriage for pregnant women.

Sudden change in behavior without obvious reason.

Complete loss of appetite for food.

Thinking or imagining one has done something when in reality one has not.

Sudden obedience and/or love for a particular person.

It should be noted that if a person experiences some of the above symptoms this does not necessarily mean that he is either possessed by a jinn or struck by black magic. It might be due to physiological or psychological reasons.

As for curing this condition the following steps are recommended:

Putting one's trust in Allah with sincere belief that He is the only cure for everything.

Reading Qur'aan and known supplications expressing seeking refuge, the most important and effective of which is sura 113 and 114, Al-Falaq and Al-Naas, which were used to cure the Prophet himself. Surah 112, Al-Ikhlaas, is recommended along with them, as well as the opening chapter of the Qur'aan, Al-Fatihah. To cure black magic some have successfully used seven lotus-tree leaves. The leaves should be crushed, then mixed them with water enough for taking a bath. The following verses from the Qur'aan are then recited: verse Al-Kursi (2:255), surah Al-Kafiroon (109), surah 112, 113, 114; the verses which mention magic, which are: in surah Al-Baqarah (2:102), Al-A'raaf (3:117-119), Yunus (10:79-82), and Taha (20:65-69). The possessed person drinks some of the water, and the rest is used to give him a bath.

Removing the elements of magic as was done by the Prophet when he was struck by black magic by a Jewish man called Lubaid Ben Al-'Aasim.

Eating seven Aa'liya Al-Barniy dates (among the dates of Al-Madinah) first thing in the morning; if not possible, any dates will suffice, by the will of Allaah.

Cupping-removing excess blood.

Supplications.

And we ask Allaah to cure your brother and ease your hardship and his, as He is the One who cures and there is no one else who can cure

Jinn Possession

Question Assalamo alaikum All our lives we have read and seen stories about Jinn taking possession of humans but what we are witnessing in unbelievable-our niece has been possessedd by a strange being that she is totally a different being talking totally different thngs during that time and when the being goes out of her she is the same old being-we are witnessing it with our own eyes so there is no chance of not believing and the worst part is that the family is such a strong aqeedah and practicing muslims and since that day (a month, _all the surahs and ayats recommended by the sunnat and ulema are being recited and practiced but nothing seems to work-a weak and decent girl gains such power as of a strong man when this happens- please tell what the sunnah or hadees says about it as we dont find any incidents in sahaba s life-the girl herself has never left namaz and has been teaching Quran to children since so many years plz guide jazakallah

Answer I suggest you do dua, recite and blow them and consult a good doctor. There is no need to involve mullah's etc. This is also termed as multi-personality disorder. Allah has given it and he alone can remove it.

The Calvinistic Reformers Were Right About Worship: Defending the Historic View of the Regulative Principle

In a large number of audio lectures and sermons, new books, republished books, newsletters, videos, tracts, web sites, etc., those of us who uphold the Reformation doctrine of the regulative principle have specifically set forth our positive position concerning public worship. Now our critics (such as Doug Wilson and Steve Schlissel) should provide something specific about their positive position on the public worship of God and the second commandment.

The critics must state specifically what the second commandment allows and what it forbids, to the best of their ability, after having studied the relevant data. They have taken their shots at our work, where we have stated our position. Once they have put forth their positive position we will critique it from the perspective of the regulative principle. Observers of this debate will then be able to determine which side represents the Scriptural position.

If the modern detractors of Reformation worship actually get around to presenting their position, the historical and theological sources of their views will be clear to all. It will be easy to see which side is following in the historical and theological footsteps of the Westminster Divines, the Reformation Dutch Synods, John Calvin, John Knox, Samuel Rutherford, George Gillespie, and John Owen.

There would then no longer be any question about who the real classical Protestants are and who is following the teaching of a different theological position.

I also ask the reader to consider the following questions: Were the Calvinistic Reformers and their Confessions all wrong in their interpretation of Scripture concerning worship? Were the Lutherans, Prelates and Romanists right?

Upon seeing the position on worship offered by detractors of the regulative principle, it will be possible to ascertain the following: Does their view confirm that they hold to the same theology of worship as the original Reformers? Or does it show the opposite, namely, that they embrace the worship theology of the Reformation's opponents? Do they hold to the Reformation position on worship or not?

There are two sides to the coin of the regulative principle of worship. If you agree with it and apply it faithfully to every part of public worship, you are in agreement with the Westminster Assembly and the Covenanted Reformation. If you fundamentally disagree with it, then you have embraced the fundamental principles of Roman Catholic worship.
